How to Register Guide

WebAdvisor is the online platform all L&C students use to register for classes.

You can log into WebAdvisor by using your L&C User ID & password.

Here are some key areas in your Student menu to know about before to registration:

• User Account -> Emergency Contact Info: You will not be able to register for anything until you have updated this information.
• Academic Profile -> Test Summary: Check to ensure that your placement exam results have been uploaded, and to verify that L&C has received your AP or IB exam results.
• Registration: You will register yourself for courses using WebAdvisor. This menu has several sections that will be explained more fully below.
• Registration -> Registration Permissions: After clicking this link, you will be prompted to select the following term, 25/FA. The next screen will indicate the dates and times you may register. This screen will also show any course permissions you have.
• Academic Profile -> My Class Schedule: Double-check the results of your registration by checking your schedule before logging off. Choose “My Class Schedule” to verify that you registered for your course(s) correctly.

This summer you will register for your fall semester courses in two rounds:

• Your first registration round is on Wednesday, July 30th from 10:00am to 4:00pm PST. In this first round, you will register for two 4 or 5-credit courses (note that you cannot register for a PE/A or MUP course in the first round).

Because you can register for only two courses at this time, register for the ones that are most important to you.

• Your second registration round is on Friday, August 1st starting at 10:00am. In this second round, you will register for all remaining courses. Remember, going into this registration round, you will already be registered for 8 or 9 credits (the courses you registered for on TBD).

You must be registered for a minimum of 12 credits in the fall semester to reach full-time status, and we encourage students to register for 15 to 17 credits each semester. The maximum number of credits you can take is 19.

After your second registration round, registration remains open until August 15th.

After that, registration is closed until the start of the add/drop period. The add/drop period begins on the first day of classes, September 2nd, and ends on September 12th at 4pm (for more information on registering for classes during the add/drop period, review this page on the Registrar’s website).

You do not need permission to register for fall class. However, in order to register for subsequent semester courses, all students are required to first gain their faculty advisor’s permission. You will be able to see advisor consent in the Registration Permissions section of WebAdvisor. Advisor permission is required because a close academic-planning partnership between students and faculty is at the heart of advising at Lewis & Clark.

You do not need advisor permission this summer to register for fall class.

However, if you are interested in a course but have not met the prerequisite or are otherwise restricted for some reason from registering for it, email the professor of the course (listed in WebAdvisor) to discuss permission to enroll in the course. If granted, their permission will appear in “Registration Permissions” in WebAdvisor and you can register for the course. Before emailing the professor, be sure to consult with your Advisor.

In order to register for subsequent semesters, all students are required to gain their faculty advisor’s permission to register for classes. You will be able to see advisor consent in the Registration Permissions section of WebAdvisor. Have you updated your emergency contact information?

If you have created your L&C account, have logged into WebAdvisor, and are having trouble registering, it may be that you haven’t yet filled out your Emergency Contact information; without this information, WebAdvisor places a “registration hold” on your account. To submit this information, please follow these steps:

1. Go to WebAdvisor. 
2. Log in using your WebAdvisor User ID and password (see above if you have questions about this step)
3. Click on Students
4. Under User Account, click on Emergency Contact
5. Enter the appropriate contact information
6. Click on the Update/Verify button to complete the entry

If this isn’t the problem, here are a few other things to check out:

Is the class full?

After you Search for Sections, the Section Selection Results page provides details about the current number of spots available in a course (“Avail”), the maximum number of spots offered in the class (“Cap”), and how many students are on that course’s waitlist (“Wait”). If there are 0 spots available in a course, you can join the waitlist.

Is there a time conflict?

You will not be permitted to register for courses with time conflicts, no matter how small the conflict. To make sure you are seeing all the times that a course meets, click on the title of the course in the Section Selection Results and read what is listed under Meeting Information.

Have you checked the course prerequisites?

You will not be able to register for a course if you have not met the prerequisite. For incoming students, certain prerequisites can be met by placement exams, by AP or IB credit, or by transfer credit. Many 200-level courses, and most 300-level courses, are not open to students until they have completed the appropriate prerequisite courses at L&C.

To see course prerequisites, click on the title of the course in the Section Selection Results and read what is listed under Requisites.

Have you checked the course co-requisites?

Many science classes have co-requisite courses, which means that you must register for both lecture and lab sections simultaneously (in fact, WebAdvisor will not allow you to register for one or the other on its own). For example, if you are interested in taking General Chemistry, you can register for both Chem 110-01, a lecture section, and Chem 110L-03, a lab section (or any lecture and lab pairing that fits with your schedule).

Have you unenrolled from the placeholder (Admn-100) course?

1. Go to your Student page and click on “Register for Sections.”
   
   
2. Next, choose “Register and Drop Sections.” 
   
   
3. From the Action drop-down menu next to Admn-100, select “Remove from List.”
   
   
4. Scroll down and click “submit” at the bottom of the page.

There might be some general education requirements that you would like to take before too much time passes. For example, if you previously took a language and want to continue studying that language in college, we recommend enrolling in the appropriate level language class in your first or second semester.

Try to keep in mind how the work you’ll be doing in your classes will fit together. When possible, we suggest picking courses that offer a variety of different kinds of “brain work” that strikes a balance between reading- and writing-intensive, quantitative problem solving, world language, or creative courses. You might love one particular subject, but too much of one thing is usually a bad idea!

As you think about your credit total for fall, remember that physical education and music performance classes are one credit (we recommend enrolling in 15 to 17 credits per semester). If you participate in varsity athletics, you can register and earn credit for your sport during the season.
