Concentration in Dance
Dance is one of the most diverse and inclusive programs on campus. Within a welcoming environment, dancers are encouraged to experiment with new ideas in class and onstage. Investigation and curiosity are at the core of our program. We teach a deep understanding of authentic movement invention, kinesthetic awareness, body/mind integration, and collaboration. Our dance students graduate with the ability to think creatively and critically as they embrace a life enriched by the performing arts.
- Apply physical techniques (grounded presence, kinesthetic awareness, spacial consciousness, breath support, dynamic alignment, and tactile perception) in class and performance.
- Demonstrate an understanding of various dance idioms via classroom or studio exposure.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the important relationship between music, dance and theater.
- Apply skills of listening, articulation, awareness, and collaboration through the creation of performance as a member of an ensemble.
- Demonstrate principles of improvisation and choreography (including an understanding of space, time, weight, touch, movement qualities, presence, imagery, and concept) through the creation of spontaneous and set work.
- Demonstrate knowledge of experiential anatomy and understand best practices to connect the body and mind, whether interested in performance, sport, or life.
