Applications are now open for limited spots in the Bates Center’s flagship program Winterim which features 60 speakers, mentors and judges for 30 students in a fast-paced week that culminates in a pitch competition with $8,000 of cash prizes.

No prior entrepreneurial experience is required or expected. Priority deadline is November 15.

Winterim

Whether you want to start a new organization, work for an existing one, or are simply curious and motivated, you will benefit from this week. We assign you into groups of three or four to create, research, develop and pitch an idea. You will learn entrepreneurial and life-skills amidst inspirational speakers, mentors, and leaders in the for-profit and nonprofit professional community.

Prior entrepreneurial experience or an idea required? No!
Motivation, curiosity, and commitment to fully participate required? Yes!
Hone your networking, communication, and pivot skills!
Most meals included
Able to live on campus during Winterim at no additional cost if residing in campus housing spring 2024

These funds are not tied to the idea/venture you create during the Winterim week (meaning team members split the prize money and can spend it on whatever they please).

Career Accelerator Fall 2025

Thanks to a generous donation from alumna Heidi Hu ’85, Lewis & Clark is expanding its Career development programs. The Bates Center and Career Center are launching new opportunities this fall to help students gain real-world experience and job ready skills.

The Career Accelerator is a game changing program designed to combine the power of a liberal arts education with technical, job-ready skills. Employers value critical thinking, adaptability, and communication, but they also look for technical skills and work experience. The Career Accelerator bridges this gap, helping students land competitive, mission driven jobs after graduation.

The event brought 27 students to campus prior to the start of spring semester for a week of learning, networking, and mentoring, which culminated in a pitch competition for more than $10,000 in prizes.
