Liu Meiru

Dr. Meiru Liu specializes in Chinese language teaching and pedagogy, curriculum design, translation, China and Chinese cultural studies. She has been teaching Chinese language courses of all levels and Chinese literature in translation at Lewis & Clark College since 1994, served as Director and Lead Professor of the Oregon Graduate Chinese Language Teacher Professional Development and Training Program from 2008 to 2015, and Director of Overseas Chinese Flagship Program with American Councils for International Education. She has been invited as an academic adviser, consultant and teacher trainer at universities in the United States, Canada and China, and as trainer, keynote/guest speaker and presenter at local, national and international conferences and workshops on teaching Chinese as a foreign language. Dr. Liu has served as business Chinese culture and cross-cultural communication consultant and specialist for training Asian-Pacific and global department senior managers and employees at several multi-national corporations in the U.S. She has also served as organizer and co-organizer for more than a dozen regional, national and international conferences, forums, seminars and workshops on generic and business Chinese language teaching, pedagogy and material development, cross-cultural communication and translation studies, Oregon-China investment, education, culture and tourism, Chinese education and economic forums, etc. Dr. Liu is the author and co-author of more than 20 academic books and textbooks on China studies, Chinese generic and business culture, translation studies, cross-culture communication, Chinese language teaching and pedagogy, Chinese classroom teaching and management, Chinese language textbooks of business Chinese, spoken Chinese, Chinese characters for listening, speaking, reading, writing, typing and translating, to name a few. Dr. Liu has published numerous journal articles and book chapters in the field of teaching Chinese as a foreign language and China-related research.
