Mission
Lewis & Clark Black Alumni Association (LCBAA) fosters excellence and community among current and future Black alumni and allies of Lewis & Clark College. Through its events and initiatives, LCBAA serves as a resource to facilitate networking to maximize the achievement of career goals for current Black students and alumni. We aim to create a robust network of Black alumni that embodies Lewis & Clark’s cornerstones of excellence, equity, community, and service. We collectively and individually aspire to:
Collaborate with the LC board of Alumni and the BSU to support the academic and life success of Black students at Lewis & Clark.
Support the success of Black alumni in their careers, community and global experiences.
Encourage the engagement of Black alumni in the Lewis & Clark community.
Support the ability of L&C to provide a high-quality Diversity and Equity education to faculty and administrators.
Work in partnership with the College to address issues that may impact the interests and concerns of Black students
Serves as a resource to facilitate networking to maximize the achievement of career goals for current Black students and alumni. We invite all Black alumni, students and allies of Lewis & Clark to join our online community to foster excellence, equity, community, and service.
Nancy O. Gallman, assistant professor of history, has been awarded an Arnold L. and Lois S. Graves Award. This prestigious award, administered biennially by Pomona College and the American Council of Learned Societies, is given to early-career professors who demonstrate excellence of teaching in the humanities. Assistant Professor of History Nancy O. Gallman has created a new curriculum in early American history that highlights how human experience has been shaped by social change, economic development, migration, the natural world, politics, and law.
L&C’s Law School celebrates the 20th anniversary of the Roosevelt Robinson Scholarship, honoring the legacy of Judge Roosevelt Robinson ’76, and his quest to add more diversity to Oregon’s legal community.
With funds from a Projects for Peace grant, Latifatou “Lati” Savadogo BA ’24 spent the summer working to provide life-saving health screenings to displaced women in her home country of Burkina Faso.
Lewis & Clark’s Board of Trustees has elected Paula Hayes BS ’92 as its next chair. Hayes, an entrepreneurial cosmetics chemist and founder and CEO of Hue Noir, has served on the Board of Trustees since 2014.

Civil Rights Titan Ben Crump Honors MLK’s Legacy in Stirring Lecture at Lewis & Clark
On February 20th, Lewis & Clark’s Agnes Flanagan Chapel was the epicenter of an inspiring dialogue on civil rights, social justice, and the enduring legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., as Ben Crump, a preeminent figure in the fight for justice, delivered the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Endowed Lecture for the law school.
