Substance-Related Resources and Support
We’re here to support L&C students, no matter what kind of relationship they have with substances. Wherever you’re at, we want to support you and your well-being.
Our Approach
Our approach to substance use is guided by prevention and harm reduction principles. In all areas of our work, we are committed to respecting the wisdom and autonomy of the people and communities we serve. You can read more about our values here.
Support is Available
The types of support we offer fall into three main categories: education, resources, and direct support. If there is something you don’t see here that you feel would be helpful, please reach out and let us know.

We share reliable information about the risks of substance use so that students can make safer, more informed choices around substances. For example, students can take anonymous self-assessments to gauge their risk of experiencing substance-related difficulties.
We connect students with the resources they need to practice safer substance use. This includes physical resources such as drug testing kits and community resources on- and off-campus.
For more, visit our resources page.
We are here for any student who feels they would benefit from a supportive, non-judgmental conversation about substances. We call our approach to these conversations R.I.S.E., which stands for Reflect, Inform, Support, Empower.
R.I.S.E. conversations can look a lot of different ways, but our focus is always on finding what you feel would be most helpful. Examples include:
- Working toward any substance-related goal you might have, such as cutting back, quitting, or using a substance in a safer way.
- Processing difficult or challenging substance-related experiences.
- Supporting your choice to abstain from one or more substances, either temporarily or indefinitely.
- Finding and connecting with resources either at L&C or in the wider community.
You can read more about what to expect when meeting with Health Promotion and Wellness here.
If you’d like this or any other kind of direct support around substances, please reach out to healthed@lclark.edu or schedule a meeting at this link.
