Art Show
21st Annual Ray Warren Symposium on Race and Ethnic Studies
On the Border
November 13–15, 2024
This year’s art exhibit will be on display Watzek Library from November 13 to December 2.
Curatorial Statement:
This year’s Ray Warren Symposium Art Show explores the symposium theme “On the Border.” Through the art show we aim to examine the different borders we experience, the role of borders in our lives, and the relationship between borders and ideas about race and ethnicity. Our collection includes a myriad of pieces made up of different art mediums, including photography, poetry, and mixed media, which we saw as fitting, given that artistic expression should be boundless. In collaboration with the artists, this year’s show considers the way that we interact with borders and limits, both conceptual and physical. As curators of this year’s show we encourage viewers to reflect on the role art plays in redefining our perception of borders in tandem with and beyond the events of the Ray Warren Symposium.
