Faculty-to-Faculty Peer Mentoring
TEP Faculty-to Faculty Peer Mentoring is for Lewis & Clark faculty who seek to expand their teaching expertise with support from our skilled, experienced Lewis and Clark peer mentors.
All of our peer mentors have taken TEP’s peer observation training and they are focused on providing constructive and collaborative support, not assessment or evaluation. Participating in the program is completely voluntary and confidential. Available to all faculty members of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS): tenured, term, tenure-track, visiting, adjunct.
Typical flow of participation:
- Contact TEP via the peer mentoring request form to be assigned a peer mentor. You can request a specific individual from our list of peer mentors, or TEP can choose your mentor for you.
- Meet with a peer mentor to discuss your motivations and goals for the collaboration.
- Schedule classroom observation(s) with your peer mentor. Number of observations is flexible, and can range from one to several, depending on your goals.
- After the classroom observations, schedule a follow up conversation with your peer mentor. At this meeting, you will discuss the observation(s), collaborate on developing a set of takeaways, and work constructively on how to apply what you have learned to your teaching going forward.
- From this point on, your peer mentor can serve as an ongoing resource for you as you continue to develop your teaching skills.
- Focused assistance in identifying and addressing challenges in a particular class or in your teaching in general
- Feedback on syllabus planning and course design
- Assistance with post-observation goal setting
- Support in developing and utilizing effective pedagogical techniques
- Facilitation of a mid-semester, consensus-based, student feedback process to provide concrete suggestions for your course
- Ongoing mentoring and collaborative goal setting (beyond the single semester of classroom observation)
- Assistance with interpreting end-of-semester student evaluations
- Support for departments or programs who wish to evaluate and improve upon shared student experiences in the major or minor
