Information for Involved Students

Something has happened in your residence hall, and now you have been told you are being referred to the Office of Community Accountability & Conflict Education (CACE). We know that a situation like this can produce anxiety for students, so our hope is that by outlining what will happen next, we can relieve some of that stress and steer you towards a positive resolution.

What happens after my ID number is recorded?

1. Your RA and any other involved College Officials will complete an Informational Report (IR) to the College. In this report, staff are now asked to document what they experienced in their interaction with you and any potential policy violations. Their reports include the names and ID numbers of anyone involved, the time and date of the incident, and anything they saw, heard, smelled or experienced in their interaction. They can say why they believed there may have been a policy violation taking place, but no one is considered responsible for any violation at this point. 
2. You will receive a letter to your LClark email from Maxient (the software from CACE) inviting you to a meeting. Our staff will let you know if this meeting is formal or informal, what potential policy may have been violated, and a time we think will be a good to meet based on your class schedule and the schedule of your Resolution Coordinator. If this time does not work, you can email your Resolution Coordinator or CACE to reschedule. If you do not tell us that the time doesn’t work, we will proceed with the meeting at that scheduled time. If you miss your meeting time, your case will either be turned into a formal case and rescheduled or will be heard with you present.
3. Within 15 calendar days, your meeting will take place. There are two different types of meetings that you can be invited to. The first kind is an informal meeting, known as an Agreed Resolution. This meeting takes place with a Resolution Coordinator (typically your Area Director if you live in-hall) or the Community Accountability Council.  In these meetings you work with your Resolution Coordinator or the Community Accountability Board decide what responsibility you have, if any, and how you can address the situation. If you agree you have responsibility, you will chose an educational outcome to remedy harm caused.  Alternatively, you may also be routed to complete an Administrative Hearing or hearing with the College Review Board. These meetings are formal, and are usually reserved in the case that you have had multiple or severe violations of College Policies. In these meetings, you will get an opportunity to talk about what happened, and then the hearing officer(s) will make a determination of if you are responsible and what the outcome will be. 
4. After your meeting, you will receive a letter outlining the discussion you had in your meeting and what outcomes you will need to complete to resolve the situation. These outcomes will come with a due date and a method of submission. Read this letter closely to ensure it is accurate, and to ensure you complete your outcomes on time. Not completing outcomes on time can result in you having a hold placed on your student account, and if a semester elapses without your outcome being completed, you can be brought back in for a hearing for a violation of the Directives Policy.  
5. Once your outcome is complete and submitted to CACE, CACE will email you confirming your case has been closed. 

We believe it is important to know that our Resolution Coordinator staff, regardless of what your meeting is about, are seeking to help keep you and your community safe. When you meet with us, we do not assume you are responsible for any violation, and all of our staff will seek to listen to you and to treat you with empathy at all times.
