Outstanding Achievement at the 2025 Chinese Bridge Competition!
At the 2025 “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency & Talent Competition – Oregon Preliminary our very own Trevor Koo won 1st place, and Marta Alpresa Balaguer, took the 2nd place awards. This is an incredible accomplishments that reflect their dedication, hard work, and talent in learning Chinese. Our Chinese instructor, Meiru Liu said, “I’m so proud of how far you’ve come and the passion you both bring to studying the language and engaging with Chinese culture. Keep up the great work—this is a wonderful milestone on your Chinese learning journey, and I look forward to seeing what you’ll accomplish next!”
Chinese Bridge Trip to Tianjin Normal University
Ten Lewis and Clark students immersed themselves in both language and culture at Tianjin Normal University, organized by Dr. Meiru Liu, LC Chinese Instructor.This fully funded trip by TNU provided unique opportunities for students and strengthened the bond between Oregon and Tianjin, a long-standing sister state-municipality partnership.
中文之美 The Beauty of Chinese Language: Success at the US National Chinese Speech Competition
The beauty of the Chinese language was proudly showcased by three students from Lewis & Clark College, who achieved outstanding success at the U.S. National Chinese Speech Competition, organized by the American Academy of International Culture and Education. Competing in this highly prestigious event, the students from Chinese 202 and Chinese 320 demonstrated exceptional language proficiency and cultural understanding.
Fellowships for Asian Language Study and Art History
The Blakemore Foundation is now accepting applications for its Blakemore Freeman Fellowships for Advanced Asian Language Study and the new Blakemore Kingfisher Art History Language Fellowships. Both programs provide full tuition and a stipend for living, travel and study expenses at approved language programs in Asia for an academic year of full-time intensive language study during the 2025/2026 academic year.Celebrating Creativity: Keilani Wins Second Place in the “My Trip to China” Short Video Contest
When Chinese student Keilani set out to share her experience traveling in China, she never imagined her story would soon be recognized on an international stage. Guided by curiosity, creativity, and a passion for cultural connection, she crafted a short video that not only captured her journey but also resonated deeply with audiences and judges alike.

Andrew Fowler, a fourth year World Languages and Computer Science and Mathematics double major at Lewis & Clark, won the Third Prize in the 22nd “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students, held in Nanning, Guangxi, on September 2.
