Oren’s research focuses on religious practice, Jewish experience, and national discourse in colonial and postcolonial Morocco. His courses also contribute to Political Economy, Ethnic Studies, Gender Studies, and Middle East and North African Studies programs. Oren spends a lot of time enjoying the Pacific Northwest by foot, bike, ski, and canoe!

Dr. Kosansky Receives Fulbright for Rabat Genizah Project

Associate Professor Oren Kosansky has received a prestigious Fulbright award for his project, “Digital Humanities Scholarship and Jewish Cultural Heritage in Contemporary Morocco”. Building on his extensive background in anthropology and Moroccan studies, this project bridges the gap between Middle East and North African (MENA) studies and Jewish studies.

Students contribute to groundbreaking Jewish history project

After working extensively with Rabat’s Jewish community leaders to determine what should be preserved, Associate Professor of Sociology and Anthropology Oren Kosansky received a $50,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities in 2010 to create an archive of approximately 4,000 digital images.
