Favorite spot on campus: I love the Estate Gardens behind the Frank Manor House. Calm, peaceful, relaxing area with a great view of Mt. Hood.
Little-known fact about me: I have a day named after me in my hometown. During my senior year of high school, I received a proclamation from the mayor and a key to the city declaring May 19th, Cyrus Nichols Day. I was selected for this award from my community service, academic, and athletic accomplishments.
Piece of advice for students in the college search process: Be authentic and true to yourself in your applications. Colleges are looking for unique individuals who will contribute to their campus community, not just perfect candidates. Focus on showcasing your genuine personality, experiences, and passions, rather than trying to fit a mold or impress with superficial achievements. I would also say to have fun and enjoy the college search process. Try not to get too stressed out.
Favorite place to spend time in Portland: I enjoy walking and biking along Portland’s many trails, especially Forest Park which is one of the largest urban parks in the US. I also enjoy visiting the beautiful waterfalls in the area with my favorite being Multnomah Falls. I enjoy good music and good food so you will find me all over the city enjoying the variety of food and music options Portland provides.
If I was stranded on a desert island, I would want these three things:
- water
- shelter to keep me safe from bugs and weather
- knife or an axe
If I didn’t work in Admissions, I would be: working in college athletics or working with youth in some capacity like at a high school or community based organization. I have a sports background and would also want to coach track, football, or basketball.
Admissions is located in Frank Manor House on the Undergraduate Campus.
