What three words would you use to describe L&C?
What is one of your favorite classes?
Jennifer Hubbert’s Theory Through Ethnography course. If you like to read, talk, and learn more than you could ever imagine in a semester, this is the class for you! I recommend this class to people whenever I get the chance.
What made you want to come to Lewis & Clark?
The small community and beautiful campus.
What do you like or find most interesting about your major?
Art history seems niche, but it includes practices from every discipline, making it an extremely interesting and well-rounded major.
What made you want to major/minor in Asian studies?
Minoring in Asian studies allowed me to take interdisciplinary classes in subjects I would have never considered—including ethnography, music, and even language. As an art history major, the minor fit well with my studies and allowed me to branch out into different specialties without getting off track for graduation!
Do you have any advice for future Asian Studies students?
Build a strong Asian studies community. We’re a pretty small group, but it makes getting to know each other that much easier.
What are your future career aspirations?
I plan to pursue my PhD in art history with a focus on Asian art. Asian studies has taught me how to approach my research from multiple perspectives and solidified my passion for research in Asia.
How did your financial aid package influence your decision to attend Lewis & Clark?
It tipped the scale for me in the direction of Lewis & Clark! It made attending college out-of-state possible for me.
Name a resource on campus that has been indispensable to your success!
Your professors! It took me a while to build up the courage to attend office hours, but once I did, I started making key connections and building great relationships on campus. They have a wealth of knowledge and genuinely want you to succeed.
Where did you find your community on campus?
As a well-known library avoider, I found my community and study spots inside the department lounges. I spend a large portion of my day on Miller 4th floor—chatting with friends, making tea, and working on my computer.
