This trip includes delicious food and drink experiences from cooking classes, to wine tastings, to delicious meals at local Brasserie; cultural presentations from local history, to a visit to the European Union Parliament, other local cultural experiences; and a special opportunity to stay with a host family as well as, spend time with Lewis & Clark College students as they show you their Strasbourg.
Highlights
Delight in Strasbourg’s markets and local shops and take a day-trip to the charming neighboring village of Obernai.
Taste regional food and wine including an Alsatian wine and cheeses tasting, traditional meals featuring choucroute, and tarte flambee, and learn to make local specialities with a French chef.
In the Capitol of Europe, visit the European Union Parliament, enjoy lectures on the history and culture of the area, and take a boat ride learning about the beautiful architecture of this city.

Itinerary
We encourage participants to arrive to Paris, or another nearby European city by 12/8 so transit to Strasbourg is convenient the morning of 12/9. Participants can add a pre-night in Strasbourg, France for $350 USD per room.
Please arrive by 11:00 am today to Strasbourg, France to meet your group leaders, enjoy a lunch together, and start the program. Arrangements will be made either for early check-in to the hotel or to store your bags.
After lunch we will have an orientation and tour of the city that includes visiting the impressive Cathedral of Strasbourg, and a boat tour along the river discovering the city’s many beautiful canals.
In the evening for dinner you can try a local dish, something like a pizza. A Tarte Flambee is an Alsatian flatbread covered with a base of crème fraiche or fromage blanc, and typically sliced raw onions and bacon.

Wake up and take an early stroll around the hotel’s lovely neighborhood.
After breakfast You will gather as a group to polish your French skills, or if a beginner learn a few phrases to help you as you greet your host family, travel about, and do some shopping.
Our lunch today will offer a chance to ask our Lewis & Clark students their tips for exploring Strasbourg.
Today we will have an opportunity to join up with Lewis & Clark students and have presentation about the European Institutions and why Strasbourg is referred to as the Capitol of Europe. Afterwards the group will visit the European Union Parliament.
This evening you will have some free time to explore on your own. The Lewis & Clark team will make recommendations. perhaps you want to plan ahead and make a reservation at one of the 32 Michelin star restaurants, or wander snacking as you go.

We will join our guide for an excursion to a nearby village of Obernai, a village with a charming small-town feel. Enjoy some exploring, shopping, and more wine-tasting.
The group will enjoy a cooking class with a local chef.
Return to Strasbourg.

The morning is free to sleep in or plan out your own adventure.
In the afternoon we will learn about regional wine and cheese at a local wine bar. You will certainly want to taste a variety of Alsatian wines including Riesling and Gewurztraminer as well cheeses, Munster and Gerome.
In the afternoon you will meet your Host Family and transfer from the hotel to their home.
Later in the evening there will be an opportunity to take in some local cultural offerings as a group.

Now that you have become familiar with the city our resident guide will take you on an in depth tour of the city. There will be plenty of down time to shop, grab coffee and people watch, explore on your own, or just relax.

We only have four or five home-stays so space will be limited to 6 to 10 people. Our home-stays can accommodate either a couple (one bed), two travelers (two beds), or solo travelers.

Molly Tennis
Molly Is the Study Abroad Director for Lewis & Clark in Strasburg, France. She is originally from Seattle, Washington and her life’s work has been rooted in cross cultural exchange and learning. Molly has served as a Peace Corps volunteer, worked in Abu Dhabi, and as a University Professor for over ten years. She has taken an active role in local Strasbourg International associations.
Oliver Seguin
Oliver is a native of Lyon, France who works closely with students on Lewis & Clark’s overseas program. He also served as a Peace Corp volunteer and now works for an international telecommunications company. Olivier is passionate about fostering community engagement through local associations and arts initiatives.
Vivianne Beller
Born and raised in Massachusetts, Viv moved to France 48 years ago.Professionally, Viv is a certified tour guide and lecturer, specializing in all things Alsatian. With over 30 years of experience, she has introduced countless visitors to the rich history, culture, and traditions of the region. Through her work, she has cultivated an extensive network of connections, uncovering unique sites and stories that make Alsace so beloved.
