What three words would you use to describe L&C?
Dynamic: L&C is always changing and adapting to students’ needs; there is always something interesting going on on campus that is open to all students.
Friendly: I have met so many wonderful people on campus who have affected me in profound ways, and I don’t know where I would be without some of these people.
Inclusive: There are so many opportunities for students to get involved with the community and so many clubs and departments where they can find their place.
What’s your favorite class? Why?
My favorite class is Public Health with Carolyn Zook. I have learned so much in that class about the importance of public health and how it is for everyone to maintain the health of a community.
What made you want to come to Lewis & Clark?
The campus was absolutely beautiful, and my tour guide mentioned that there are equal opportunities for undergrad and graduate students, as well as lots of opportunities for music and the performing arts!
What do you like or find most interesting about your major?
Biology is such a broad major, and there are so many professors with different specialties. There is likely something for everyone, or the professors know how to get a student in contact with someone more specialized in their interest.
What do you like or find most interesting about your minor?
The health studies minor is such an important area of education because it is prepping me for my chosen career path. I am very lucky that L&C offers something like this.
Tell us about your support systems and social outlets on campus: people, activities, clubs, res halls, etc.
I’m in Kith & Kin A Cappella—not only is it my primary club, but it also holds my closest friends. Clubs on campus are so close-knit, and with such a wide range of interests and specialty groups, every student can find something they love with people they really care about. That, and it is so easy to start your own club here!
What advice do you have for incoming students?
Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there! Try everything! Everyone is in the same situation, away from home and starting school. So, audition for everything, try the sports, get involved, you only have things to lose when you don’t try.
How did your financial aid package influence your decision to attend Lewis & Clark?
It did partially influence my decision. Lewis & Clark was very generous in giving me a scholarship to go here.
Did you visit campus before deciding to come to L&C? How did your visit influence your decision to attend?
Yes, it was a crucial part of my decision to come here. The vibes of the campus and the welcoming demeanor of the students here were a key part in my decision.
How do you describe the liberal arts?
The opportunity to expand upon knowledge and push boundaries.
What’s one of the best spots on campus?
The reflecting pool! It’s absolutely wonderful to just sit and read.
What’s your favorite thing about living in Portland?
There’s always something happening, always an event that’s open to the public.
What’s one of your best Lewis & Clark memories so far?
My favorite memories of Lewis & Clark so far are sitting in the library at night and creating group poetry with my friends, and singing “Carmina Burana” with Cappella Nova.
How are you involved in the arts at L&C?
I’m involved in choir, theatre, and our campus a cappella group, Kith and Kin!
