River Otter

I think the most important thing I can do is to be a symbol of pride for all Lewis & Clark students, faculty, staff, and alumni. I help to lift up our community and generate excitement about everything that happens on this campus—academically and athletically.

What three words would you use to describe L&C?

River Otter Paradise

How do you feel about becoming the Lewis & Clark mascot?

I am so excited. This campus is the stuff of river otter dreams. That reflecting pool in the Lower Estate Gardens is just begging for river otter antics. And I mean, what school could be a better fit for a fierce (but goofy), hard-working (but playful), smart (but fun-loving) mascot like me?

What do you view as your most important role on campus?

I think the most important thing I can do is to be a symbol of pride for all Lewis & Clark students, faculty, staff, and alumni. I’m never going to make a breakthrough discovery in a lab, win a Rhodes scholarship, set legal precedent, or become a school principal, but I help to lift up our community and generate excitement about everything that happens on this campus—academically and athletically.

What are you most looking forward to?

I can’t wait to show off all aspects of my personality. I will make the fur fly in athletic competition, but I’m also ready to play at campus parties and events. I hear there’s a mascot costume in the works … that will be HUGE! And I really hope the community wants to engage with me. My secret hope (not a secret anymore!) is that people write a song or chant about me. Or give me a name. A NICE ONE, of course, haha.

Do you plan to get involved in the community beyond campus?

Oh, for sure. I’ve already got friends all over this town, from my wild buddies in the Willamette to my pals Flora and Hobson up at the Oregon Zoo, and I’m looking forward to making more. My face is all over the rebranded OtterBus; I’m hoping that when people see me around town, they’ll want to come up to campus and learn more.

Is there anything else you want to say to campus right now?

Of course: GO, OTTS!
