Contentious Global Issues Discussion-The Global Impact of Artificial Intelligence, Professor Bob Mandel
Council Chamber, Fowler Student Center
Facilitated by Professor Bob Mandel, this session will highlight the value of being exposed to sharply contrasting perspectives on a topic deserving of multiple viewpoints and their distinctive supportive argumentations. Join Bob, and alumni Lisa (Burnett) Borelli ’89, Steve Van Mouwerik ’79, Micael Lonergan ’19, Eric Nijensohn 98, and Matt Wuerker ’79 for a probing discussion that will empower the alumni to engage in diverse legitimate forms of critical thinking about the subject matter’s complex, multifaceted, and sometimes contradictory implications.
Alumni Weekend Welcome Reception 5 - 6:30 p.m.

Enjoy wine from alumni wineries at the first reception to welcome the Lewis & Clark community to Alumni Weekend 2024. Mix and mingle with alumni, family and friends from all reunion years. Faculty and staff are hosted to this event. The following wineries will be featured at the Welcome Reception:

Morning Mindfulness with Awakened Awareness
Join Hilary Martin Himan, Director of Spiritual Life and Chaplain, as she leads participants in some simple mindfulness and meditation practices to start the day. All are welcome- no previous experience necessary.

Cascade Head: Oregon’s Only UNESCO Biosphere, Professor Emeritus Stephen Dow Beckham
Location To Be Determined
Professor Stephen Beckham will speak to the area of the central coast from Siletz Bay to Neskowin and cover history from Native American cultures to modern tourism. The area includes thousands of acres in the Siuslaw National Forest, the Cascade Head Experimental Forest, the Cascade Head National Scenic Area, and UNESCO’s Biosphere designation.
Alumni Honors Celebration and Reception 1 - 3 p.m.

The Board of Alumni cordially invites you to honor four outstanding members of the L&C community at the Alumni Honors Ceremony. This year’s Alumni Honors award winners are Ululani Brigitte Russo Oana ’15 - Outstanding Young Alumni Award, Hillary Dixon ’99 - L&C Alumni Leadership Award for service to L&C Alumni, Mark Duntley - Don Balmer Citation for Service to the college, and Art VanZee ’69 - Distinguished Alumni Award.
