Overseas & Off-Campus Programs Committee (OOPC)

OOPC is charged with supervising the development and implementation of various aspects of overseas and off-campus study, including:

Reviewing proposals to create new programs; advising on program development; making recommendations to the Curriculum Committee regarding approval.
Reviewing program leader applications and selection of program leaders.
Advising on the scope and extent of overseas and off-campus program offerings.

Composition of OOPC

OOPC includes faculty, staff and student representation. The faculty and student representatives are voting members, and the staff are ex-officio. Faculty represent each of the divisions of the undergraduate college: Arts / Humanities, Social Sciences, and Natural Sciences. Voting members serve three year terms (unless extenuating circumstances necessitate an extension). The chair of OOPC is a faculty member and serves for a one-year term. In most circumstances, the chair is a committee member who is in their second or third year of service. Positions are appointed by the Dean of the College, in consultation with the Director of Overseas & Off-Campus Programs.

Leader Application Policies and Procedures

Applications to lead overseas and off campus programs are invited from all faculty and staff with experience working directly with students in a teaching capacity. The call for applications to lead programs is typically made in the summer, with applications due in early October. In general, applications will be invited 2-3 years in advance of the scheduled program.

The Overseas and Off-Campus Programs Committee is charged with reviewing applications and selecting program leaders. The following criteria and considerations are taken into account when reviewing program leader applications:

Qualifications, interests and goals of the applicant as expressed in the application
Applications are welcome from tenured and non-tenured faculty, as well as staff. Priority is given to faculty, with preference for those with tenure. Junior tenure-track faculty should have their tenure file submitted by the time their program begins.
Consideration is given to applicants involved in the establishment and ongoing development of overseas and off-campus programs for which they are applying
Consideration of student experience and strategic needs across the full range of program offerings

Program Leader Application

New Program Proposal

2027/2028 Academic Year:

Fall 2027:

Germany: Berlin. For this program iteration, the faculty-led course will be a Data Science course. Please include a brief outline of the course you propose to teach. This course must be one that can fulfill Data Science program requirements.
Greece: Athens and Lesbos. Leading this program includes team teaching one course that involves fully teaching a module for the three week period that the student group is on the island of Lesbos. Please include a brief outline of the module you propose to teach in your application.

Spring 2028:

Call for applications will be announced late in the Fall semester.

The application deadline is Friday, October 3, 2025.

To apply, please fill out the program leader application (linked above), sign it, then have your department chair sign your application, and then bring the hard copy with both signatures to the Overseas and Off-Campus Programs office. They will submit the form to the Dean’s office for review. The Dean’s office will then deliver signed applications to Blythe Knott, to distribute to the OOPC committee.
