Indigenous People’s Heritage Month
Indigenous Peoples’ Heritage Month (also commonly known as Native American Heritage Month or National American Indian & Alaska Native Heritage Month) is a time to honor and celebrate the culture, traditional practices, and customs of Indigenous Peoples. The word “indigenous” often refers to the original caretakers of the land before colonization. In North America, the Indigenous People are often referred to as Native Americans or Alaska Natives. With more than 370 million Indigenous People spread over 70 countries worldwide, we want to take this month of November to recognize the history, sufferings, and contributions of Indigenous Peoples. Join the Native Student Union (NSU), Indigenous Peoples’ Heritage Month Planning Committee, and the Inclusion and Multicultural Engagement (IME) office in honoring and learning more about our Indigenous community.
