Pauls Toutonghi’s fourth book, The Refugee Ocean (Simon & Schuster, 2023) is now out in paperback. It is available wherever books are sold.On Wednesday, November 20th at 6pm, Broadway Books in Portland will host a celebratory event that will include merriment of various kinds. LC Professor emeritus and former Oregon Poet Laureate Kim Stafford has edited a new anthology with Allison deFreese entitled, “A Proclamation for Peace Translated for the World.”A miraculous book envisioned by co-editor Allison deFreese at the Oregon Society of Translators & Interpreters.
Thanks to Allison’s network and with her help, Kim Stafford’s peace poem in English is translated into fifty languages, together with notes on translators and their languages, and QR access to dozens of voiced readings.

This book will be featured at the fall conference of the Oregon Society of Translators & Interpreters, and also at several local events listed below where all are welcome to attend.

Through the efforts of two of our alumni, Hillary and Adam Dixon, this $2,500.00 award was established in 2002 by the Dixon Family Foundation. It is given to one junior English major each year.

The LC English Department is excited to learn that Creative Writing Professor Pauls Toutonghi’s latest novel, The Refugee Ocean (Simon & Schuster, October 10, 2023) has been selected as a Barnes & Noble Discover Pick of the Month!
Per B&N, “With two plots that jump around time and place, and characters that are immediate and real, The Refugee Ocean is as masterfully told as it is emotionally satisfying. It grapples with complex topics that will leave the reader deep in thought, contemplating long after that final page.”
