64th Annual Symposium
Crumbling Pillars: The Age of Authoritarianism
April 6-8, 2026
This year’s symposium confronts one of the defining challenges of our time: the global rise of authoritarianism and democratic backsliding. From the erosion of democratic institutions to the forces that fuel anti-immigrant rhetoric, political polarization, and the concentration of power, it is our hope that through the events our audience develops a more thorough understanding of the complexities surrounding international dilemmas.
The program spans three days of public events designed to inform, challenge, and inspire. Alongside our signature debate, featuring two expert speakers, this year’s symposium includes a keynote address, a documentary screening with producer commentary Q&A, a live podcast recording, a letter-writing campaign, and a community storytelling event featuring first-person accounts of migration and resilience. Organized entirely by students, every event is free and open to the Lewis & Clark community and the general public.
