HOLDS AND MESSAGES
MESSAGES
Messages appear on all screens of Self-Service. Messages are in blue boxes, and provide you with more information and often include links to the office you need to contact.
If you have messages you will see the yellow indicator on your Home screen.
When you click the indicator the message will appear. Note that the message box is blue, but it does state that the outstanding balance is preventing registration. There is an underlined link that will open the webpage of the office that generated the message.
Other messages that you may see may relate to Financial Aid.
HOLDS
Holds that prevent registration appear only on the planning and scheduling screens (or on registration screens).
When you transition from the Home screen to the Planning and Scheduling screens, holds that prevent registration
- will appear in RED boxes
- and an accompanying blue message above it will provide more information and link to the office that placed the hold.
ADVISOR APPROVAL TO REGISTER
You will also see messages about advisor approval on the Planning and Scheduling screens.
In order to register, you must obtain advisor approval during the Advising Period. You may see a message that lists the last time you obtained advisor approval to register. If this date is earlier than the advising period for the upcoming semester, you must obtain a new approval.
In this example, the Advising Period for the fall 2026 semester begins on March 9, 2026.
- The advisor last gave approval on 02/20/2026 (before the current advising period begins).
- Thus, the red message appears that states advisor approval has not yet been granted to register for fall 2026.
To remove the “last advised” message, click the OK button and refresh your screen.
